Ponty set for busy pre-season ahead of first campaign

Club News, First Team

Pontypridd FC will prepare for their first season with a busy pre-season schedule that includes nine friendlies, including two exciting fixtures against Welsh Football League clubs.

Pre-season will commence on Thursday 5th July with the first training session to be held at the Maritime Recreation Ground between 8.30pm and 9.30pm. Pre-season sessions will be open to new, welcome on the night or through advance notice by contacting the club.

The new club’s first ever fixture will take place on Wednesday 11th July, a prestigious friendly against Welsh Football League club AFC Porth to be played at Tonyrefail Leisure Centre (7.30pm kick-off). The Black Dragons are one of the most successful clubs in the Rhondda area in recent times, boasting a long history as a Welsh League club as recently as 2014 Porth lifted the Welsh Football League Cup.

There is a ten day break before our next fixture when we travel to Cardiff to play Canton Liberal of the South Wales Alliance League Premier Division on Saturday 21st July. A week later (July 28th) we have another prestigious fixture as we scheduled to travel to play a Trefelin BGC XI at Ynys Park in the Port Talbot area. Trefelin have just completed a very successful Welsh League campaigning, lifting the Welsh League Cup by defeating Welsh League champions Llanelli Town in the final (as well as narrowly missing out on promotion to Division Two).

Another week follows before our fourth pre-season match; we’re back in the capital again, this time to play Cardiff & District League side Cwrt-Yr-Vil on Saturday August 4th. Seven days later the team will travel to play Gilfach Goch-based Red Valley of the Bridgend League on Saturday 11th August. The final away fixture is three days later at Merthyr League club Navi Treharris on Tuesday 14th August.

Our final pre-season preparations include three home fixtures in a week. South Wales Alliance League’s Carnetown FC will visit the Maritime on Saturday 18th August before a couple of fixtures against local sides wrap things up. We welcome Glyncoch Spartans for a midweek fixture on either the 22nd or 23rd August, then Hopkinstown will be our visitors for the final pre-season match on Saturday 25th August.

Further details about venues and kick-off times will be confirmed at later dates.
