Pontypridd FC ended pre-season with a very disappointing 6-1 home defeat to Llanbradach AFC. It was anticipated this would be a close game on the basis of league results last season, but another slow start and poor first half performance meant Ponty were effectively playing for pride in the second half.
It brings to an end a frustrating summer for the players having competed well in parts of most of their games, but again the habit of starting games slowly or not showing enough consistency in their play was punished a well-drilled Llanbradach side that played to their strengths very well.
A poor start saw Ponty 3-0 down after 20 minutes, but the backline was breached too often in the opening stages with the pace of Llanbradach’s number 11 a constant problem. The visiting forward helped himself to four goals over the course of the game.
Lewis Taylor scored Ponty’s goal in the first half, heading home a corner at the back post, and in the second-half there were spells when Ponty showed a little more of themselves, but overall it was a sour note on which to finish preparations ahead of next weekend’s TERV League curtain-raiser.
