Club News, First Team, Under 13s

With the first month of competitive fixtures complete, this week the management and coaches of both senior and under 13 sides have decided on the inaugural Pontypridd FC Player of the Month awards. The award has been set-up to recognise and highlight good performance and dedication as we continue to build a positive culture inside the football club.

For September 2018 the following players have been recognised:

  • Senior Team – Huw Ward
  • Under 13s – Evan Siewczyk

Everyone at Pontypridd Football Club offers congratulations to both players for their outstanding commitment and efforts on the pitch.

Evan Siewczyk receives his U13s award

Speaking about the under 13s award, chairman Nigel Wheeler said:

“We have set up a player of the month award for the under 13s, the player chosen by the coaches based on attitude, ability and availability in training and matches. September’s award goes to Evan because he has excelled in training and has been committed in matches. It is great to be able to give the first award to Evan.”

For senior team, Huw Ward has enjoyed an excellent month. He’s been ever present in the matchday squads, scoring three goals and providing three assists. His dribbling ability and vision has been a regular source of inspiration in the final third. Despite being the youngest player in the senior squad, the teenager has shown great maturity by adapting to playing in a variety of roles in midfield and attack.

Speaking to Huw, he said he is “honoured” to be receive the award, adding he is “very grateful to the coaches for all that they’ve done”.

Huw Ward (L) congratulated by first team coach Ryan Wheeler

Huw’s personal highlight was scoring twice last weekend in the local derby v Cilfynydd. He said: “Definitely scoring the winner against Cilfynydd [was a highlight]. After drawing with them in the league we needed to win the latter. My first goal in the match was lucky but I enjoyed scoring the winning goal.”

Finally, Huw said he was happy his versatility has been of good use to the side, but joked with several outfield players having to deputise in goal of late that’s not a challenge he fancies taking on himself.
