The under 13s put in an excellent performance to secure their second win of the season – and their first ever on the road under our banners – by defeating FC Caerffili on Saturday morning. The youngsters displayed great team spirit and determination to battle well in the game. They overcame a controversial penalty award at 0-0; Corey Foggarty saving the kick. Then after after Mani Owen had given Pontypridd the lead, a late Caerffili equaliser might have seen the lads crumble, but they persevered and got their reward with a last gasp strike from Evan Sienczyk. Man of the Match was Ruben Owen.
After the match coaches Graeme Jones and Ryan Wheeler were keen to praise the players for not dropping their heads when Caerffili equalised. They added their fightback was a great tribute to them and the winning goal a just reward for their improvement. Fellow coach Bradley Harris added, “last season we won one game, our aim was to better that and today that’s been achieved.”
Alongside Ruben Owen, the coaches were keen to highlight certain individual performances in this game.
Matthew Williams – worked his socks off in defence to ensure we held out for a win and is becoming a rock at the back.
Dylan Edwards – another hard-working performance at the back, is really showing his versatility and performing for the team.
Oliver Bailyes – he continues to improve and gave a solid performance on Saturday. Oliver shows great commitment to the team.
Well done to all the players and coaches. The under 13s now have a week off before picking up their league campaign again in November.
