FIRST TEAM | December fixtures

Club News, First Team

After Saturday’s 4-3 win at Hopkinstown kept us in touch with the leading pack in TERV League Division One, everyone at the club is now looking forward and trying to achieve our goals for the season. The latest release of TERV League fixtures has set-up a huge month before Christmas. Four fixtures that will go a long toward deciding what we’re challenging for in the new year.

This Saturday (1st) we travel to Upper Boat Playing Fields to play Division One leaders Cilfynydd AFC in another local derby. We’ve played Cil twice already this season and both games were very competitive affairs. We drew 2-2 at the Maritime in the league and beat Cilfynydd 3-2 at Upper Boat in the Greyhound Cup. They are at the top of the league on merit, we know it will be a very tough match with no shortage of good-natured rivalry.

A week later (8th) we’re back at the Maritime for the first time since October 13th. FC Trecenydd will be the visitors. Another side that are having a good season so far and we know from our previous meeting this will be another massive challenge. The Caerphilly-based side beat us 2-1 at Aneurin Park in the league earlier this season.

On the 15th we make another visit to Aneurin Park to face bottom of the league Caerphilly Argyle. A newly founded club, Argyle have had a tough season results-wise but reports suggest their performances are getting better every week. We’ve learned once or twice this season you cannot take anybody for granted in this league; it’s another match in which we’ll have to earn anything we take from the game.

The last fixture of 2018 is at the Maritime and Nelson Cavs 2nds will be the opposition. Our meeting earlier in the season at Wern Field saw us pick up a 2-1 victory. Nelson sides are always competitive, we expect no different in this one.

This will be the telling month for our campaign. We thank everyone that has come to support the boys this season, especially those on the touchline week in-week out, come rain or shine. We’ll need your support this month; new faces always welcome at the Maritime and on the road; please join us at the Rose & Crown after home games.
