Although February will end a month without any fixtures for Pontypridd FC, there has been plenty going on around us in the TERV League. Here is our latest round-up of how things stand at the moment in both divisions.
Division One
We’ll start in our division and Caerphilly Athletic Reserves are top of goal difference. Their two results in February have seen them beat Nelson Cavs reserves 12-0 and suffer their first league defeat of the season, a 3-0 reverse at Cilfynydd two weeks ago. Cilfynydd are level on points with Caerphilly Athletic, trailing on goal difference.
With games in hand on the four sides below them, Caerphilly Athletic continue to look overwhelming favourites to win the league. The battle below them though is less predictable with five points separating Cilfynydd and ourselves in 5th. With a number of key fixtures still to be played among the top 5 there is everything to play for if a couple of sides can put together a good run it would surely secure them promotion at the end of the season.
This Saturday Trecenydd (3rd) and Hopkinstown (4th) meet at Aneurin Park. A win for Trecenydd will move them into top spot; Hopkinstown would leapfrog their hosts into third if they win by three or more goals.
Remaining Fixtures for the Top 5

Trecenydd: Caerphilly Ath (H), Hopkinstown (H), Nelson Cavs (H), Hopkinstown (A), Llantwit Fardre (A), Treforest (A)*
*Original fixture was postponed because Treforest could not field a team; tbc whether the league awards Trecenydd a ‘walkover’ win.
Premier Division
Ynysybwl are top of the table and two points clear (plus two games in hand) of champions Nelson Cavaliers. Their meeting this month finished 0-0 and a further goalless draw with Cwrt Rawlin has really hit Nelson’s bid to retain their title. It seems like it is Ynysybwl’s title to lose from this point.
Below them it is very tight with a mere 4 points separating 3rd placed Cwrt Rawlin and second from bottom Church Village. Two sides go down from this division so it is all to play for every side outside the top two and bottom club Glyncoch Spartans, who, with just one point to their name, look destined for the drop.
No side is safe and the likes of AFC Tiryberth and Rhydyfelin, having played more games than the sides below, with no doubt be feeling the pinch and know they need a few more points yet to keep them away from danger.
Saturday’s fixtures see Tiryberth (4th) host Cwrt Rawlin (3rd) and Cascade (8th) at home to Rhydyfelin (5th). So tight is it that a Cascade win could lift themselves to 5th if results go their way.
