After weeks of disruption, a dry weather forecast means there will be plenty of action across the TERV League this weekend with plenty of issues unresolved across both divisions.
In Division One the title remains Caerphilly Athletics 2nds to lose. The As are one point behind leaders Hopkinstown with three games in hand and have dropped just four points this season. Should Caerphilly Athletic go on to secure the title, league rules mean promotion would be open to the sides immediately below them in 2nd and 3rd, leaving it open for four teams at the moment. Along with Hopkinstown, Cilfynydd, Trecenydd and Pontypridd are in the mix.
There remains a number of games between the top five, including this weekend’s meeting between Hopkinstown and Trecenydd at Western Field. Pontypridd and Cilfynydd’s meeting on April 17th could also be pivotal.
A TERV league and cup treble remains on for Ynysybwl. The Bwl are just a point behind leaders (and defending champions) Nelson Cavaliers but crucially have four games in hand. Ynysybwl are also through to the final of the Greyhound Cup (against Church Village) and are through to the semi-finals of the Bernard Martin Cup (along with Talbot Green, Church Village and Caerphilly Athletic).
The battle to avoid the drop alongside Glyncoch Spartans appears wide open and a month ago it seemed everybody except Ynysybwl and Nelson were under threat. It’s difficult to read due to a lack of consistency in the number of league games played, but the likes of Church Village, Cascade and Llanbradach will need to make the most of their apparent advantage of games in hand. Tir-Y-Berth could do with picking up points in the few remaining games they have; four wins on the bounce have pushed Rhydyfelin up the table and they may now have enough of a cushion to feel safe.
Cwrt Rawlin and Church Village’s match at Owain Glyndwr Field looks set to be the key fixture of the weekend; Cascade travel to the Dog Track to face in-form Rhydyfelin.
