Pre-season continued with another tough test for the seniors on Tuesday night. Welsh League Division Two side Treharris Athletic Western were visitors to the Maritime and their team boasting experienced Welsh League such as Adam Lewis and Nyran Bird provided a very tough test for the boys.
Treharris ran out 6-0 winners on the night but for Pontypridd it was another step forward in the preparations for next season. Team shape and organisation was much better managed by the players on the field and despite long periods without the ball, there were a few moments of good play from the home side. Hywel Patterson and Matthew Bennett-Jones were denied a consolation goal by a superb saves and Piotr Tolak almost pulled off something spectacular but couldn’t find the finish to his fine solo run late in the game.
A further positive is the integration of the new players in the squad. Young right-back Bradley Harris performed very well and was nominated our man of the match. Owain Lewis put in another accomplished performance, playing in three different positions during the game and looking comfortable in each role.
The next test on the field is this Saturday against Taff Ely Rhymney Valley Premier Division side Talbot Green. Kick-off is 2pm at the Maritime.
