Pre-season hit a low note on Saturday as a very poor performance saw the senior team lose 8-1 to Talbot Green at the Maritime.
In a match played over three 30-minute periods, Pontypridd simply did not get going in the game against a team that, playing one division higher, were expected to provide a very tough test, but also allowed for more competitive action.
Aron Barnes scored the Pontypridd goal early in the second period, reducing Talbot Green’s lead to 2-1 at the time but a truly disjointed, disorganised and lethargic showing saw Talbot Green runaway with the game in a pretty embarrassing manner.
Next up for the seniors is the visit of Red Valley to the Maritime next Saturday, 12pm kick-off. Red Valley play in the Bridgend & District League Premier Division. Last season they finished 10th in their league (12 teams) and were losing finalists in the Bridgend Premier Division Cup final. Next week’s meeting will be the second between the clubs following a 2-2 friendly draw last summer.
