Yesterday our under 14s team began life at Ynysangharad Park with the visit of Cwrt Rawlin in both sides’ first league game of the 2019/20 campaign. As a proud day for the football club, bringing a Pontypridd club back into the park, the young lads did the club and themselves proud with a good display at their new home.
An excellent first half-display – which the coaches felt contained “probably the best football they have played since they were formed” was rewarded by the Ponty 14s taking a 1-0 lead into the interval. However, a disappointing five-minute spell in the second-half saw Cwrt Rawlin score three times. Ponty did try to fight their way back in but a very competitive game finished 4-2 to Cwrt Rawlin. Despite the disappointing result, the coaches felt the overall performance showed signs of improvement from last season.
The goal scorers for Pontypridd were Harley Williams and Ruben Owen. Harley Williams was also nominated as man of the match following an all-round hard-working display and a spectacular 30-yard chip on his debut for the side.
The coaches also wanted to highlight the performance of Kaden Harris, who they said “has made the right back spot his own and gets better each game.” Kaden also showed his versatility by standing in at centre-back when one of his team-mates had to go off with injury.
Finally, club chairman Nigel Wheeler wanted to give a special mention to the under 14s coach Graeme Jones, “who has worked hard on the team’s fitness through the summer and it showed in the game”.
The under 14s next fixture is next Saturday (14th) away to Llantwit Fardre.
