Pontypridd under 14s secured their first win of the season – and their first ever at Ynysangharad Park – with an 8-0 victory over Llanbradach yesterday morning. After a chastening defeat away to a much superior Llantwit Fardre side the weekend before, this was a remarkable turnaround in performance from the Ponty youngsters.
With the sun shining on a superbly prepared surface in the park, the under 14s delivered a performance the coaching staff were very proud of. Owain Capper scored a hat-trick; there were also goals from Ruben Owen, Mani Owen, Harley Williams, Evan Sienczyk and Matthew Williams.
After the match the coaches commented they were “extremely pleased with the turnaround from last week, especially the change in attitude and application. They stressed though there is still plenty of work to do but the boys have set a very good standard to try and replicate every week.”
Player of the match was Owain Capper, a hat-trick the least his work-rate deserved. There were also mentions for team captain Mani Owen, who continues to lead by example with “immense and assured” displays at the back. Ellis Huish – who joined in the summer – continues to impress and is leading the line well. Oliver Bailyes was also called out for “showing great vision in his passing and dogged defence”.
An excellent team effort, well done boys from everybody at the club. The under 14s play away to Rhydyfelin next weekend.
