Promotion for firsts as TERV League divisions finalised

Club News, First Team

Having finalised the senior league structure for the 2020/21 season, the Taff Ely Rhymney Valley League have informed clubs of the league’s make-up and we are delighted our senior first team has been promoted to the Premier Division.

Despite finishing outside the automatic promotion places on the points per game basis, the club had anticipated the senior first team continuing in Division One but an influx of new clubs and teams into the senior league has resulted in a re-structure with the four highest placed eligible teams from Division One being promoted to the Premier, with none relegated from the Premier Division, in order to balance the divisions.

We therefore join Division One champions Cefn Hengoed, Fochriw Village and Rhydyfelin Non-Pol in moving up a level. While this outcome has come as a surprise, the new challenge ahead provides fresh motivation for our senior players with places in respective squads likely to be competitive during pre-season.

Our 2nd team will embark on their first ever campaign in Division One along with seven other new sides.

Upon hearing the news, first team manager Ryan Wheeler remarked:

“We thought we came just short but it’s a brilliant bit of news to find out we will play in the Premier next season. It will be a much bigger challenge but I know we’ll be up for it and try to have the best year we can.”

“With pre-season training set to start this week the hard work starts now for the players and there will be lots of competition for places.”
