Pontypridd FC Reserves fell to a fourth consecutive defeat of the season, going down 6-1 away to Nelson Cavaliers Reserves.
If results are anything to go by, Nelson’s second team are much-improved this season from their customary role propping up the division one table and this time they handed out a thrashing; leaving much soul-searching among Ponty ranks.
Consistency of selection is proving difficult for the Ponty reserves but this is, ultimately, the nature of second team football and after two decent – if unrewarded – performances, this defeat represents a bit of a step backwards.
There were individual positives, such as the performance of Josh Jones at left back and goal-scoring debutante Connor Walker, but collectively the team must find a way to be much harder to beat in order to give themselves a competitive chance of taking something from games.
It’s a learning curve with so many inexperienced players and the group will go again in search of points next month.
