Goals from Ashley Moyle and Artur Cegielka gave Pontypridd a win over Trecenydd at Llanbradach Park and three vital points, ending a three-match losing streak.
Even this early in the season this was a proverbial “six-pointer” against a side sitting bottom of the TERV Premier Division. Despite the continued of absence of several first-team regulars, there was a boost in the return of club captain Kieron Cook to the squad and a debut for recent signing Adam Griffiths.
Ponty started on the front foot and were good value for the 10th minute lead through Ashley Moyle’s second goal of the season. The winger ran through to finish well after good build-up between Patterson and Lewis.
Trecenydd grew into the game and caused some problems with runners off the Ponty back-line but Alex Mitchell-Charman dealt well with any efforts that came his way and was very assured under the high ball. The Ponty stopper produced several good saves to keep the away team’s lead intact.
At the other end, Geraint Lewis and Ryan Jones had the best opportunities to extend Pontypridd’s lead but failed to take them.
A red card for the home team for denying an obvious goal-scoring opportunity gave Ponty a numerical advantage on the field but the home side threw caution to the wind in search of an equaliser. That left space at the back and a lack of composure meant Ponty never really made the most of it with repeated infringements for offside and poor decisions in the final third.
Artur Cegielka eventually settled the nerves in the final minute, pouncing on a goalkeeping error to score from close-range and seal the three points for the black and whites.
