Pontypridd FC reserve team fell to defeat away to unbeaten league leaders Ynysybwl AFC, their ninth reverse in ten matches of the league campaign.
Buoyed by their first win a fortnight ago away to Trallwn, the Ponty side started well and Geraint Lewis was centimetres from connecting with Brad Harris’ cross for a back post tap-in. Almost immediately at the other end, a mistake by Dan Perry allowed Ynysybwl’s Lewys Cummings to open the scoring in the third minute.
In an even first-half, Ponty had their fair share of chances, Lewis having the best of them but his one-one-one was saved. The visitors did survive a scare before half-time after Josh Jones was penalised inside the 18 yard box. Fortunately the Ynysybwl penalty struck the post and stayed out.
HALF-TIME | Ynysybwl AFC 1-0 Pontypridd FC Reserves
In the second-half, Ponty continued to show they could compete with their high-flying hosts. Two chances came and passed, Lewis failing to finish both. While the pace of Ynysybwl’s attack carried menace, the home side were unable to create many chances against a resilient Ponty defence.
The game’s big momentum shift came fifteen minutes from time when Ryan Mehenni was controversially sent off for denying an obvious goalscoring opportunity.
The home side made the most of the man advantage, scoring twice in the final five minutes to clinch the points.
