Pontypridd Reserves were thrashed by Hopkinstown in a local derby at Ynysangharad Park. However, the result paled into significance for the home team following a serious leg injury sustained by Artur Cegielka.
The home side started well and had chances to open the scoring before Cegielka went down under a heavy challenge in the 10th minute. It was later confirmed Cegielka had sustained a double leg fracture requiring surgery.
Following a long delay in play, Ponty were unable to recover from the trauma and Hopkinstown took complete control of the game once they had nudged ahead. Brendan Payne’s first senior goal for the club – a classy 20 yard drive – was a very small tonic on a disappointing day for the club.
