Geraint Lewis’ penalty earned Pontypridd FC Reserves a point from a battling performance away to Cwm Welfare Reserves.
Lewis’ penalty – after he fouled while dribbling into the box – levelled the match with ten minutes to play and was the very least the visitors deserved on the day.
In windy conditions, Ponty played with the wind in the first half. Liam Griffiths’ free-kick gave them the lead and while the hosts had most of the ball, Ponty carried a threat on the counter.
A half-time lead would have been no more than the away deserved but a loss of concentration at a corner – after a break in play for Dan Outing to receive treatment for a head injury – meant the match was all-square at the break.
With the winds at their back, the home side had the better of the second half and took the lead midway through. However, there was disappointment from the visitors as they believed the ball had crossed the goal-line for a goal-kick in the build-up.
Ponty kept battling though and substitute Lewis eventually broke through the ensure the spoils were shared, taking Ponty Reserves into double figures in points for the season.
