Reserves beaten by late goal at Nelson

Match Report, Second Team

Pontypridd Reserves fell to a third defeat of the season, denied a point by an 88th minute strike in an entertaining contest against Nelson Cavaliers Reserves at The Wern Field.

Nelson went in front in the first-half through a penalty but Charlie Hobby quickly equalised for the visitors. At 16 years and 138 days old, Hobby is the youngest player to score a goal in senior football for the club.

After Nelson re-took the lead in the second-half, Hywel Patterson equalised for Ponty with Evan Sienczyk, another 16 year old, making a fine assist. It looked like that would be enough to earn the reserves their first point of the season but Nelson’s late goal meant an empty-handed journey back down the A470.
