Liam Griffiths reports on a big win for the 2nds…
As we approach the end of the season the games are coming thick and fast, the first of a busy schedule for the club saw the second team visit 8th place Trallwn Workmens in midweek.
Pontypridd started the game well playing with the ball well despite the conditions. It didn’t take long for the breakthrough with Lewis Roberts being sent through on goal by a Geraint Lewis pass, Roberts took his opportunity well giving Ponty the lead on 21 minutes.
Three minutes later a flick on by Liam Griffiths was latched onto by 17 year old Nathan Eratne, who took the ball down and smashed home his first senior goal doubling Ponty’s lead after 24 minutes. On the half hour mark Atrur Cegielka was deemed to be fouled in the opposition box, Liam Griffiths scoring the penalty that put ponty 3 up after 30 minutes.
After what so far had been an outstanding display by all involved Geraint Lewis was forced off through injury and shortly after Trallwn pulled one back just before the interval.
HALF-TIME | Trallwn Workmen’s 1-3 Pontypridd FC Reserves
Ponty started the second half strongly with some good football on display, the 3 goal lead was nearly restored but the crossbar denied Jonny Hughes his first goal for the club.
Through some solid defending and shot stopping from stand in goalkeeper Liam Barter ponty kept the opposition chnaces to a minimum.
Pontys discpline was soon rewared when Artur Cegielka scored on the 64th minute after good play from Liam Ormson. On the 67th minute both Hywel Patterson and Josh Weatherall were introduced to the game, both having and immidieate impact on the game.
Ten minutes later Patterson would get himself on the scoresheet after meeting a Keiron Cook freekick with a clever header. A minute later history repeated itself as Cook delivered another excellent freekick and Patterson climbed highest to get his head to it making it 6-1.
Ponty walked away with all three points with the 6-1 over a team that had previously beat them 7-0 this season. A teastament to the hard work and determination of coach Darren Cook and his players
