With all senior fixtures completed, our 2022/23 campaign comes to an end. It has been the most difficult campaign since the club was formed five years with battles having to be fought on and off the field, some that threatened the very existence of Pontypridd FC.
The campaign of those antagonists failed and the club retains a strong structure off the field without the loss of any volunteers. With these bricks in the wall firm, we look forward to going again next season with two senior teams and a youth team.
On the field results haven’t reached pre-season expectations. Despite a strong finish to the season, the first team’s disappointing campaign ended with a bottom two finish in the TERV Premier Division, which could mean relegation depending on next season’s league structure.
The reserve team finished bottom of TERV Division One, with just one official win and a meagre five points from a 26-game campaign. There were games in which the team came away with nothing after performances that merited more, but ultimately the league table doesn’t lie and there were too many tame, heavy defeats.
The youth team’s season was extremely disappointing with several difficulties on and off the field hampering any possibility of the players building momentum or taking much enjoyment from the campaign. The weather, pitch issues, availability of referees and other off-field factors led to a stop-start season with as many postponements as matches played. The culmination was the unfortunate decision to withdraw from the league as fulfilling the remaining seven fixtures looked impossible under the circumstances
For all sides, commitment from players across the board for training and matches will be essential if there is to be any improvement in results on the field.
The committee wishes to thank all the players, coaches, volunteers, parents and supporters for getting the club through a very arduous season. The strength of the club was displayed by the many who stepped up to keep the club going through the three hardest weeks in October.
We also express our extreme gratitude to the fantastic sponsors of the club: Tom Prichard of Prichard’s Contracting Ltd, the Outing family of Western Security Systems Ltd and Dean Marenghi of DM Recycling Services. Your generous financial support helps maintain the smooth operation of the club and provide a high standard of equipment and facilities for all our players.
A special thanks to Owain and his team at The District Club, our home from home. More than just a place the players go back to after matches, The District has become a de facto clubhouse and we have enjoyed working with The District to put on several events through the season.
The 2022/23 season is a wrap then and we wish everyone involved with the club a good break with the end of season presentation in a few weeks the final date in the calendar for this campaign.
Best wishes,
The Committee of Pontypridd Football Club
