Hassaan Tariq scored twice and Jack Davies made a goal-scoring return to senior football after a lengthy spell on the sidelines with injury but it wasn’t enough to stop Pontypridd AFC Reserves falling to defeat away to Rhydyfelin Non-Pol Reserves.
Ponty suffered against balls over the top and were two-down inside half an hour. Hassaan Tariq’s introduction from the bench for the unwell Finley Wilkinson brought an instant response, the Pakistan national scoring his first goal since January 2022 five minutes before half-time. However, the home team struck again before the interval to restore their two-goal lead.
Three more unanswered goals for the Non-Pol team gave them a commanding lead but the Ponty team showed some resilience with goals in the closing stages. Davies struck from Liam Griffiths’ assist before Tariq added his second of the game to give the final result a more respectable look.
