A strong team performance led Pontypridd Reserves to victory over Nelson Cavaliers Reserves – the Black Sheep seconds’ first win for exactly 365 days – and put their first points of the campaign on the board.
Sion Pennell’s powerful long-range drive gave Ponty the lead in the 15th minute, following good work by John Radnor (making his first appearance since February due to injury). Liam Griffiths curled a second before half-time after some good footwork on the edge of the penalty area.
A resilient defensive display in the second-half held off Nelson’s bid for a comeback and captain Alex Mitchell-Charman was unbreachable in goal when called upon, while teenager Pip Wragg was the driving force in midfield.
17 year old Bili Pitman came off the bench to put the icing on Ponty’s victory cake, finishing calming after a solo run from his own half in the closing stages.
