Pontypridd AFC Reserves scored three goals in the final nine minutes to defeat Cilfynydd Reserves and secure back to back league wins for the first time.
Trailing 4-2, goals from Geraint Lewis, Liam Griffiths and Pip Wragg turned defeat into an incredible victory at Ynysangharad Park Cricket Field.
The Black Sheep, “visitors” for this fixture, were buoyed by last weekend’s victory over Nelson Cavaliers Reserves with Dan Outing replacing the injured Ross Thomas as the only change to the starting line-up.
However, Ponty Reserves found themselves trailing at half-time. Pip Wragg’s first senior goal Ponty’s answer to three first half goals from the home team.
Substitutes Geraint Lewis and Lewis Roberts combined to give Ponty hope in the second-half, Lewis setting up Roberts on the hour mark. However, when Cilfynydd score their fourth goal in the 79th minute it looked certain they would win.
Lewis added a goal of his own before Liam Griffiths levelled the game from the penalty spot. There was more to come; 17 year old Wragg scored his second goal, and Ponty’s winner, in the 90th minute to complete an incredible and unprecedented comeback win.
