Missed chances cost Ponty at home to Church Village

First Team, Match Report

Pontypridd’s frustrating start to the season continued with a home defeat against fellow strugglers Church Village.

Ponty were boosted by a win last time out, while Church Village came into the fixture winless in nine. However, a hard-working yet profligate Ponty failed to take any of the abundance of chances they created, whereas the determined visitors made the most of theirs.

After an even first quarter of the game, Church Village got the crucial breakthrough courtesy of Harri Ryan’s penalty. The Black Sheep had their chances to equalise before half-time but failed to get their efforts on target.

Early in the second half, Sion Hinksman made the most of a defensive mistake to double Church Village’s lead before Ben Ryan was sent off for the visitors following two yellow cards issued within a few seconds of each other for actions of dissent.

With a man advantage, Ponty pressed in the last half an hour, creating more than enough chances to turn the game around but all went begging, leaving the Black Sheep rooted to the bottom of the league.
