Stand-in goalkeeper Liam Beer was the hero as he saved two penalties to help Pontypridd to a 4-3 penalty shootout win against Llanbradach following an entertaining 3-3 draw at Ynysangharad Park.
Beer, who joined the club in January and has only made a handful of reserve team appearances, stepped in at the last minute to play in goal and put in a performance that belied his inexperience in the role.
In a topsy turvy encounter with Division Two champions Llanbradach, Ashley Moyle scored twice to cancel out Llanbradach’s opener before Lewis Roberts guided home Aled Evans’ through ball following Morgan’s equaliser for the visitors.
It looked like it would be enough before a late header for Llanbradach took the game into penalties where Beer produced his magic between the posts and Aled Evans, Ashley Moyle, Hywel Patterson and Elis Hughes were on target for Pontypridd.
