The first team’s five match unbeaten run came to an end as well as any hopes of clinching the TERV Division One title with defeat in a top of the table clash with Llantwit Fardre Reserves.
Following a 1-1 draw in the reverse fixture last November, both sides knew this would essentially be a winner takes all result. Ponty started poorly though, gifting Llantwit an early 2-0 advantage and although the Black Sheep fought back in the second-half, they couldn’t find a breakthrough in front of goal and were caught out on the counter-attack as the hosts sealed the points and took a six-point advantage at the top of the table (having played one more game than Ponty). Llantwit Fardre realistically need one more win to secure the title given a much superior goal difference.
