First win of the season for the reserve team

Match Report, Reserves Team

Following Monday’s disappointing result the lads were eager to put things right and get some points on the board. A few changes to the squad with Brad Harris,Sion Pennell and Dan Perry making comebacks for the club. Along with captain David Llewellyn after missing the first game through injury.
Like Monday Ponty started the game stronger looking dangerous going forward with Ryan Mehenni getting early joy down the left hand side. Ponty were playing some nice football with Huw Ward at the heart of it in midfield. A sign of things so come as Sion Pennel saw a headed effort saved at the near post.
A few moments later Pennell was unlucky again as his first time volley from 25 yards smashed against the crossbar, denying what would have been without doubt a goal of the season contender.
Ponty finally got the breakthrough they deserved when a cleared the ball was volleyed by Brad Harris from 25 yards and ultimately proved too hot to handle for the goalkeeper.

Following Monday’s second half display it was important to start strong, and the lads did exactly that.
Huw Ward continued to cause issues for the opposition, as a result winning a freekick. Louie Sellwoods pinpoint ball found the head of Sion Pennell who directed his header back across goal into the corner of the net leaving the goalkeeper stranded. Giving the reserves a well deserved 2-0 lead after 55 minutes.
The home team rarely troubled our goal throughout the game but a rebounding ball from a set piece founds its way into the net via a deflection on the 64th minute seeing Pontys lead reduced to one goal, game on.
The introduction of Dan Perry at the back added to an already hard to break defensive line. Who ultimately saw out the remainder of the game keeping the score at 2-1 and the reserves taking home their first three points of the season, and three thoroughly deserved points at that.

Head Coaches Liam Griffiths Comments : Delighted with the result, the boys knew they had to put things right following Monday’s performance and they did exactly that. We showed real togetherness to see out the game in the fashion we did and that’s a credit to all the lads. We now need to build on this momentum and take into our next game on Monday night.
