Tough evening for the reserves

Match Report, Reserves Team

Following their first win of the season on the weekend the reserves were looking to build momentum from that result but knew it would be a difficult game against a strong Cwm Welfare Reserves side.

A few changes to the team saw Cameron Hughes making first appearance of the season, along with Rhys Boots and Cian Cooper coming back into the defence.
The home team started the strongest and were rewarded with an early goal 6 minutes in. The lads tried to get going but found themselves 2-0 down on the 22nd minute.
A frustrating half was made even more difficult when captain David Llewellyn was forced off with an injury.
The rest of the half was fairly quiet with the home team attempting several efforts from range with no success.

A change in formation and personnel saw Rhys Boots substituted for Liam Griffiths at half time.
Ponty started the second half a lot brighter and the best chance of the game for Ponty came in those early stages. Some good build up play set Leo Wilson free down the line and his cross found Griffiths but his shot was saved by the Cwm Welfare goalkeeper.
Shortly after the home team extended their lead from a long range effort that found its way into the bottom corner. The second only got more difficult as the home team continued to press.
The home team added three more goals to their tally in the 68th,80th and 90th minute to run out 6-0 winners.
A tough day at the office for Ponty.
MOTM: Dan Perry – Was superb throughout, continued to battle right until the last minute.
Special Mentions: Just want to praise the lads, they kept going and gave everything they had. Playing Saturday-Monday is hard enough let alone with low numbers and lads carrying injuries.
Head Coach Liam Griffiths comments: Its a tough one to take, we know there are going to be some very difficult games this season that’s why the result on Saturday was so important.
Credit to Cwm Welfare, tonight was one of those games where you have to hold your hands up and say they were the better team. Its a long season so still plenty of points up for grabs, just like to say a massive thank you to all the lads that have helped us out and played with knocks as we navigate through this busy period of games.
