A very disappointing day for Ponty as they looked to build following last week’s result against Springfield. The Black Sheep started very well winning the ball high up the pitch and playing some great stuff in testing conditions. Ponty took the lead after a mistake from the home team keeper with Huw Morgan benefiting and slotting the ball home. Gelligaer’s first goal seemed to rattle Ponty a bit. It was a contentious decision to allow the goal with the home attacker going in studs up on the keeper with his hands on the ball. Gelligaer played the conditions better and took the lead again but Ponty managed to go in level after an Aled Evans strike from a Tom Frowen corner to the near post. The feeling was the team would go on to win from there. Second half it was all Ponty but the team just couldn’t make good decisions in the final third. Gelligaer went ahead again and the Black Sheep wasted chances galore, rarely testing their keeper. A home team penalty put the final nail in the coffin and the game finished 4-2.
MOTM – Tom Frowen. Kept working hard throughout and won a number of turnovers and second balls in midfield to get Ponty on the front foot.
Special mentions – Dylan Porter (making his 50th first team appearance) and Nathan Eratne both full backs didn’t stop all game and didn’t deserve to be on the losing team.
Head Coach John Radnor’s comments – We have to be better and need to take our chances. Made it far too easy for them to score and didn’t do enough ourselves.
