The Ponty reserves were looking to build on the recent week’s momentum and make it their fourth win of the season so far. But they knew a trip to Caerphilly Athletic reserves was no easy task.
First Half:
After last weekends blistering start this week was the opposite with the lads unable to settle and the home team dominating possession. But the lads stuck together and made it difficult for the home team, who were reduced to shooting from range. On the 34th minute the ball was picked up by Caerphilly Athletics’ right back who took one touch and whipped the ball into the top corner giving the home team the lead. This was short lived as a minute later Cian Cooper picked the ball up just inside the opposition half and his shot caught the keeper off his line and sailed into the back of the net making it 1-1.
Conceding the first goal was the wake up call the players needed. The next 10 minutes demonstrated that. On the 39th minute Michal Krawcow’s incisive pass found Cameron Hughes who lifted the ball over the keeper and into the back of the net making it 2-1. Just before half time the reserves extended their lead through in form Callum Rendell, who’s shot from the edge of the box found the bottom corner making it 3-1 just before half time.

The home team made changes at the break looking to get back into the game.
But Ponty started the second half how they ended the first. With quick counter attacking play and making themselves hard to break down.
Ponty didn’t have to wait long to extend their lead after a quick counter attack set Leo Wilson free down the right and his pin point cross was slotted home by Cameron Hughes.
The home team were them awarded a penalty following a late challenge in the box. The penalty was dispatched, making it 4-2.
That didn’t stop the lads from kicking on, a quick freekick taken by Krawcow set Wilson free again, and just like the last goal Wilsons cross picked out Hughes who finished emphatically to grab his first Hat-trick for the club.
That would prove to be enough as the lads played the rest of the game out comfortably.
FT 5-2
MOTM: Hywel Patterson – He’s been unlucky the last couple of games since his switch to CB not to get MOTM sooner. He’s been a rock for us. Today he won everything and was a big part of the result.
Special Mentions:  Cameron Hughes first hat trick for the club. Well deserved, took his first goal very well.
Michal Krawcows 50th appearance for the club. Mr consistent for us, played a massive part in the goals today with some quick thinking.
Leo Wilson picking up 2 assists today was superb our wide and was a threat all game.
Coach Liam Griffiths comments: A fantastic result against a good team. The big difference for us today was how clinical in front of goal we were. And the credit has to go to the lads for that, the last couple of weeks we have been working on counter attacking and our overall quality in the final third so it was good to see it paying off. We have momentum behind us now and we just need to keep pushing ove
