The reserves were coming off the back of back to back wins looking to make it three successive wins in a row with victory against Caerphilly Athletic Reserves.
First Half
Over recent weeks our games have been fast starts and plenty of goals in the first half. On this occasion it was very different, both teams were struggling to find their feet in the game with neither side creating a clear cut opportunity.
A few efforts from range but nothing to trouble either goalkeeper.
HT 0-0
Ponty started the second half the better team. The home team in control of the ball and becoming more of an attacking threat.
The home teams efforts were rewarded on the 53rd minuted after some fine football in the midfield set Leo Wilson free down the right and his first time cross was met by Cameron Hughes, who following his hatrick from last week was never going to miss.
That goal made it 4 goals in two games for Hughes and 3 assists in two games for Wilson.
The second half was dominated by the home team who were playing the better football.
On the 78th minute new signing Liam Roberts along with David Amey entered the game.
Roberts got stuck in quickly almost getting on the scoresheet but a decent save from the talbot keeper denied him.
The two substitutes linked up in the 85th minute with Roberts heading a corner back across goal and found Amey in space who headed home to secure the three points.
MOTM – Seb Cegielka was outstanding today, was calm under pressure and won every duel he was involved in. Set the standards in midfield for the whole game.
Special Mentions – David Amey scoring his first goal for the club. Well deserved, he’s had to be patient but it was worth the wait.
Liam Roberts making his debut today, showed us a glimpse of what he is capable of so we’ll look forward to getting him up to speed for the remainder of the season.
Coach Liam Griffiths comments: Another great performance from the lads especially in the second half. I thought our defence was outstanding today. It’s been a good start to the season but there is still plenty of room for improvement moving forward as well.
