A dominant first-half display set Pontypridd AFC Youth on their way to their first win of the season, hitting five past Llantwit Fardre Youth Blues at Ynysangharad Park.
The Young Black Sheep’s positive start was rewarded with an early goal when Alfie Berrett scored from close range following a scramble in the penalty area. In a fluid first-half, Ponty created numerous chances, while their opponents had some good moments on the counter-attack. However, a purple patch for the home team before half-time set the foundations for the win.
Joao Leal finished cooly after being put through by strike partner Ruben Owen on 34 minutes. A minute later, Leal returned the favour for Owen, who bagged from inside the penalty area. Shortly before the break, man of the match Evan Sienczyk was the coolest man in the park with the calmest of finishes from the penalty spot following a handball by a Llantwit defender.
A sloppy start to the second-half saw the Llantwit side hit back with goals from Gwion Tyler and a deflected Ioan Minton effort. The Young Black Sheep re-composed themselves though and Cameron Harris’ free kick 18 minutes from time sealed the win after an excellent performance.
