Tough day at the office against a very polished Bargoed side

First Team, Match Report

A tough day at the office against a very polished Bargoed FC side. It was expected to be a difficult game and that proved to be the case. Ponty started off confidently after recent results but after 12th minutes a decent move from Bargoed led to a cross for the away striker Powell to head in the corner of the net.  The lead was soon doubled with a superb turn and finish from Powell to get his second of the game. Ponty worked hard to stifle the Bargoed dominance and put together some decent play of their own but were again undone in the 39th minute with a strike from L Jones to go in at half time 0-3 down.

The second half was similar to the first with Ponty working tirelessly in defence and trying to hit on the counter. Bargoed were awarded a penalty which was despatched by Powell for his hattrick despite keeper Beer getting a hand to it. Ponty created a few more chances but unfortunately couldn’t finish them and on the 70th minute Bargoed made it 5 with a strike from J Jones . The final nail in the coffin was put in the 84th minute when Bargoed ripped through a tired defence for Jones to score the 6th. It was always going to be a real test for the Black Sheep and although the effort was there unfortunately, they were up against a very good side worthy of their position near the top of the league.

MOTM – Tom Frowen – Didn’t stop running again all game and tried to make stuff happen

Special Mentions – Owen Kingsbury who hasn’t had much game time this season but made himself a handful coming on making the ball stick and giving us more impetus

Coach John Radnor Comments :- Played against a very good side who made it very hard for us. They keep the ball well and took their chances. We didn’t look up for it today and made it too east for them, but take nothing away from them they are a very good team.
