Season preview

Club News

The 2026/27 season is upon us! A season for Pontypridd AFC that will see more teams representing the club than ever before.

For the men’s seniors, two teams will again compete in the Taff Ely & Rhymney Valley (TERV) League. While the first team await their first game of the season, the reserves have already played twice – winning and losing one game.

Both teams will hope to build on the solid foundations of last season. The core squad of players have been retained, the only significant loss being the retirement of Aled Evans due to a knee injury sustained last season. There has been positive recruitment over the summer, including the returns of Ashley Moyle, Levi Thomas and former junior player Corey Foggarty following professional spells with Cardiff City and Cambrian United.

The women’s team continues in the South Wales Women’s & Girls League (SWWGL) Division 1, hoping to improve on a disjointed campaign in 2025/26. Better commitment from the players than last season will be required if the side is to live up to its potential.

There is a new team among the ranks, with an u17s girls team competing in the SWWGL for the first time. This is an exciting new team for the club and provides a pathway to the girls in this age group from junior to senior football as we look to expand the female football provision at the club.

There will be more minis football teams than ever before competing in the TERV’s small-sided football, with four age groups and up to 9 teams, we continue to increase the fun-focused and inclusive participation for players taking their earliest steps into football.

Off the field Pontypridd AFC goes from strength to strength. We are delighted to have the support of a record number of sponsors, with partnerships old and new. We are proud and especially grateful for our ongoing long-term support from Prichard’s and Western Security Systems, both of whom have now sponsored the club for the 9th consecutive season.

There have been significant renovation works taking place at Taff Vale Park over the summer, including a major refurbishment of the clubhouse/changing room building that will bring the facilities in line with FAW licensing standards. Hardstanding has been laid around three quarters of the pitch’s perimeter and there are more plans afoot to improve the facilities at the ground. We thank Rhondda Cynon Taf Council for their ongoing support in restoring this historic local sporting ground.

With a licence acquired for the clubhouse, we hope to continue these improvements with a refurbishment upstairs in the clubhouse to provide a bar and social space for club members to enjoy and providing additional revenue streams for the club to develop.

To finish, the club committee wishes all teams at the club the very best of luck this season and extends thanks to all the volunteers at the club for the commitment, dedication and hard work over the next 9 months.
