Hywel Patterson reaches 150 apps

Club News, Features

As well as a big win at Bargoed Reserves on August 11th, a club milestone was when Hywel Patterson became the first player in Pontypridd AFC history to make 150 senior appearances for the club.

One of the “Ponty AFC originals”, Hywel was among the group of players that formed the side in 2018 and has witnessed all the highs and lows over the past 8 years. Looking back, Hywel shared some of his thoughts on his 150 apps.

The 150 proves your commitment and dedication to Pontypridd AFC, what does it mean to you to reach this milestone and be the first player in the club history to do so?

HP: I am happy and proud to be the first to reach 150. I have played for the club since it was first founded in 2018 and I plan on playing many more years to come. Hopefully I can be the first to reach 200 and many more.

You have played in almost every outfield position for the club, which position have you enjoyed playing the most?

HP: I think my best moments for the club have definitely come when I was up front but I’m happy to play anywhere; I’ll go wherever I’m needed.

What have been some of your personal highlights over the 150 apps?

HP: I have a terrible memory but some of my highlights would be scoring a hat-trick and having two assists against Caerphilly Athletic [before Covid], playing alongside my little brother, winning coaches player of the season and “Hywel, you stood on my toe” (Ceri Williams).
