Pontypridd men’s reserves were left to rue a poor second-half display, giving up a 3-0 lead and two points against division one whipping boys Ynysybwl Reserves.
After last week’s record defeat at Treforest, it looked like the reserves would bounce back with a big win of their own by racking up the goals in the first half. However, coach Liam Griffiths was left scratching his head and lost for polite words as by full-time they had to make do with a share of the points.
If confidence was dented by last week’s humiliation, it didn’t show as the Black Sheep started well, stringing together some good football and creating some half chances. The pressure eventually told when Michal Krawcow scored a well-taken goal after combining with Cameron Hughes.
A minute later Leo Wilson grabbed the pick of the goals, curling home from the edge of the box after a good pass from midfield by Ryan Mehenni. It got even better after the half hour, captain Dai Llewellyn played Hughes through one on one with the Ynysybwl keeper and the forward obliged with a composed, chipped finish.
This should have been the platform for the side to go on and deliver a thrashing against a team that had lost every game this season before this one, conceding over 40 goals in 5 games. However, the home side did not get going in the second-half and, to Griffiths’ eyes, didn’t want to play football until the final five minutes.
Declan Davies twice profited from poor set piece defending, then former Ponty player James Williams grabbed the equaliser on his Ynysybwl debut as Ponty crumbled under the immense pressure the visitors piled on.
