Pontypridd AFC men are still waiting for their first win of the season at Taff Vale Park after the first team were beaten by Nelson Cavaliers in an entertaining encounter.
Tom Frowen started for the Black Sheep, making his 50th appearance for the club, but any celebrations were dampened as a slow start by the hosts invited pressure; early goals from Harri Davies and Charlie Goodswen gave Nelson a 2-0 lead inside 23 minutes.
The Ponty side regrouped and galvanised themselves into mounting a fightback. Getting on the front foot, Ponty had an extended period of pressure which resulted in Geraint Lewis halving the deficit before half-time, the assist going to Michael Clare.
That was a big boost and the second half started with Ponty on the front foot. Charlie Hobby continued his recent fine form, scoring via a deflection from another free kick to bring parity to the scoreboard.
There were chances to complete the turnaround but the final touch was just lacking despite concerted pressure. Nelson showed their higher level experience by weathering the storm and taking advantage of tiring legs to score late goals through Davies and Richard Veale and seal the victory.
Another tight game that could have gone the other way and there was some disappointment among the squad that the opportunity to get another three points on the board. Huw Ward was awarded man of the match for the Black Sheep, for an all-round midfield display.
